Steelbank Stainless & Aluminium prides itself on being able to provide a broad range of stainless steel products in a number grades and various dimensions suitable to any customers needs. Being one of South Africa’s top steel suppliers, we stock steel sheet metal, steel plate and steel coil form and have facilities to cut to your exact requirements. We also stock a diverse range of stainless steel decorative tubing and fittings, as well as a full range of steel sections.

Stainless steel is an alloy made up of iron and chromium, with a controlled amount of carbon. They are a group of steels containing a minimum of 11% chromium, whose main property is that of corrosion resistance.

Stainless Steel Types:

Ferritic – These products contain less than 0.1% carbon and are magnetic. They can’t be hardened through heat treatment and weldability is somewhat restricted. However, they are perfectly suited for a number of applications and offer affordability along with good corrosion resistance.

Typical End Use:Domestic appliances, catering equipment, braai’s, decorative cladding, automotive trim, gutters and roofing, automotive components, etc.

In the ferritic range, we keep stock of 3CR12 stainless steel sheet, 430 stainless steel sheet. Other ferritic grades are available on request.

Austenitic – This is by far the most common and widely used type of stainless, accounting for up to 70% of global stainless steel production. The success of these materials is mostly attributed to its terrific forming and welding capabilities.

Typical End Use:Architectural moldings and trim, kitchen equipment, chemical industry processing equipment, pharmaceutical equipment, balustrading, food processing equipment, beverage and chemical tank manufacture, automotive components, etc.

The austenitic range is by far our largest stock holding. We stock a diverse range of 304 and 316 stainless steel sheeting with other grades being available on request.

Duplex –Duplex products are a combination of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels. The result of this is a sheet metal with incredible yield strengths, making it possible to opt for a lighter gauge of material and not hampering the integrity of structure and maintaining high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Weldability is also very good.

Typical End Use:Pulp and paper industry, Desalination plants, Cargo tanks and pipe systems in chemical tankers, Bridges, Pressure vessels, Heat Exchangers, automotive components, etc.

The Duplex range is the latest grade of stainless we stock. LDX2101 stainless and SAF2205 stainless are the most common grades of our stock holding.
